Jor-G returns to Lucidflow for a four tracker full of dub infused hypnotism. Subtly is the key across this quartet of tracks, each thematically cut from the same cloth. There is no black or white here, simply the many shades of grey that exist between. The music is highly appropriate for the step from summer into autumn, when the skies fold with multi-textured waves of cloud like a monochrome rendition of Britain’s iconic patchwork fields.
Within the tracks – ‘Gia Ton Yianni’, ‘Kamadelo’, ‘Maspi’ and ‘Atitlo’ – the kicks are hollowed with a great deal of space allowed within their careful thump, claps are muffled like two palms are gently coming together behind your ear, and percussion is precise without ever looking to overburden. Dub chords ring out among the tracks – sometimes like the distant threat of thunder a good few miles before it descends into the full lightshow, sometimes with long drifting tails or sharp and staccato, sometimes with darkness or with an fluid aqua. Mood is paramount.
